NEET stands for Not in Education Training or Employment

  • 580,000 young people are Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEETs).
  • A further 280,000 young people are underemployed (this means they’re employed but are not working enough hours to satisfy their living requirements).
  • 1 in 5 first year university students are dropping out.
  • Apprenticeship and Traineeship commencement rates are down 20% year on year and completion rates have dropped by 40%.
  • NEETs are growing by 12,500 per annum.
